WALK WITH US
On our section of the North Country Trail
From Starvation Lake Road in Kalkaska County to north of Conway, Michigan in Emmet County. For descriptions of the segments click on the OUR TRAIL link to the left. For maps go to North Country Trail's home page and click on MAPS.
Pinney Bridge Campground that was closed as of July 9, 2007, is still closed. That leaves the hikers of the 18 mile loop trail with no place to camp, because there is a no camping ban on dispersed camping in Jordan Valley.
To our chapter meetings
We meet every other month except for July. January we meet in Houghton Lake. March and November we meet in Sanford, Michigan.
During the warmer months of May and September
we have scheduled our meetings near Gaylord, to allow our members who live up north to attend and also to be able to do our trail walk-thru's at the same time.
Check the OUR MEETINGS link on the left for details.
Get to know us
Chapter President: Gary Johnson tbwchapter@northcountrytrail.org Chapter Secretary: Stella Thelen
The members who started the chapter had two things in common; hiking and the Tittabawassee River in their back yard; that's how our chapter got its name.
Read more about it by clicking on the GET TO KNOW US link at the left under Chapter Features.
A new addition to our membership is Friends of the Hatchery, an affiliate organization, that
adopted a section of trail to maintain. Read more by clicking on the GET TO KNOW US link and going to the bottom of that page.
Join us for a hike

To work on the trail
June 7, 2008, is NATIONAL TRAILS DAY. Our plans are to spend a pleasant day in the woods working on a trail reroute. June 21st weekend is our work/camp weekend at Petoskey. We'll be camping on private land and working on the Petoskey reroutes. Join us for campfires and outdoor picnic suppers in the evening. We may extend the work weekend to the following weekend if there are enough people interested.
If you are interested in helping, please E-mail Cora at tbwchapter@northcountrytrail.org
To adopt a trail
Our members adopt three to five mile pieces of trail and do walk-thru's, checking for downed trees and branches, blazing and doing general trail upkeep.
Clicking on the ADOPT A TRAIL link on the left under Chapter Features will take you to our trail maintainers page
where you will find resources for trail maintenance, forms for reporting hours and on-line trail maintainer reports.
On a trail promotion
March 1, 2008, our Tittabawassee Chapter will have a North Country National Scenic Trail promotion and display at Michigan State University during their Quiet Waters Symposium from 8:00 A.M. till 6:00 P.M. Plan to visit us for fun as well as support.
In the fall our chapter has a display about hiking trails at Deadman's Hill in Antrim County where our trail is located.
During the spring and winter months we have promotions at Jay's Sporting located in Clare and Gaylord.
On our Ridge Runner program
Every weekend during the summer months, our chapter has a member hiking the NCT/Jordan Valley Pathway as a representative of trails to pass out maps and promote the NCT. For more information please E-mail Connie at tbwchapter@northcountrytrail.org
In advancing our trail
Work needs to be done to gain necessary permissions to cross private lands and to move trails off two-track roads and into the woods. We are working on this and will need lots of help to do the actual reroutes. Check back here for updates.
Right now we are in the process of flagging the reroutes and obtaining necessary permissions for them.
