Maintainer's Responsibilities

Maintainer's Responsibilities may include, but may not be limited to the following:
It is recommended that each Maintainer walk their entire segment of trail at least three times during the year. Due to our members living so far away from their adopted trail, the Tittabawassee Chapter only expects the maintainers to complete two walk throughs.

During each walk through, the maintainer will remove downed branches and small trees that are across the trail. The maintainer will provide a written report of any large downed trees that need to be removed including a clear statement of the tree's location.

During each walk through, the maintainer will trim branches, new growth, shrubs, and trees so as to maintain the standard 4 foot wide by 8 foot high trail clearance.

During each walk through, the maintainer will clean the trail of trash, junk and debris. The maintainer will provide a written report of any large amount of trash or large items that need to be removed by additional volunteers and/or the land managers.

During each walk through, the maintainer will observe the condition of the trail blazes, repainting and correcting them as needed to assure they are in good condition to adequately identify the trail location in all seasons.

During each walk through, the maintainer will observe the general trail tread condition, make minor repairs as able, and provide a written report of any conditions that the maintainer believes need correction; such as wet areas needing structures, areas of excessive erosion, or segments that need rerouting.

During each walk through, the maintainer will observe the condition of all structures such as bridges, boardwalks, steps, signage, and carsonite posts and provide a written report of any conditions that the maintainer believes need correction.

After each walk through, the maintainer will provide a written report of what was accomplished and any actions or corrections necessary as well as the above reports. This report should be mailed as soon as possible to the trail coordinator.

If people concentrated on the really important things in life there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. ---Doug Larson
