Afternoon activity

| 1:30 pm A World of Change: Life in the Great Lakes Fur Trade by Upper Lakes History Company. Meet a Voyageur and a Native American! Sam and Keith will transport you to the 18th Century Frontier- the Great Lakes Region. Hands on opportunities for kids and adults- artifacts, fire building, period clothing, more.
In authentic Native American dress from the 18th Century, Keith brings to life the people living in the upper Midwest before their discovery by Europeans. As a French Voyageur, Sam explains the economic, spiritual and imperial motivations that brought the French to North America. Together they illustrate how the fur trade prompted the French and Native Americans to work together and depend on each other. Within the presentation, selected participants get an opportunity to take on roles and conduct their own trading based on the motivations and values of the cultures they represent. Sam has been interpreting and writing about history since 1992. Keith has been interpreting since 1989, and also creates reproduction Native goods for museums. | ![]() |
