Minutes of General Meeting of Thursday, September 11, 2003
Members present: Gordon & Betty Wilkes, Phil & Natasha Miller, Bob & Mary Hurley, Rich & Deb Krieger, Mary Soule, Ramona Venegas, Scott Haas, Joan Young, Steve Webster, Van Serrell, Ed Morse, Ed Chappel, Marla Whiteloon
Meeting opened at 7 pm by President Rich Krieger
FOREST SERVICE- Ramona
- Report from Brian Buchanen Relay in June- handout
- Flyer from group that maintains Udell Hills
- AP release was also in TC Record-Eagle
- Section by boardwalk has been rerouted- Joan will blaze in next 2 weeks
- Scott Haas is new Trail Coordinator for Baldwin District
- Road Rally in Wexford Co. is this Saturday
- Tribal signs are "in the mail"- FS will install
VP- SECRETARY
- Conference good- 150 attended
- SPW presented our successful NTD
- Next year will be Marietta, OH, 2005 will be Lower Peninsula
- LPTC will visit all chapters this year, will have some resources/ events next year
TREASURER- Mary Soule
- $1908.80 in Heckman
- $2300.94 General Fund
TRAIL WORK- Ed Chappel
- Will put in water bars on Saturday, north of FR 8060
- Volunteer from East Lake is interested- Dennis Fagin
- Volunteer from Baldwin area - Colene Stout-Callow
- Will prisoners be available before October 18?- maybe- the supervisor retired
- There may be some of the items from CCS money that may not be used- defer to Exec Com- October
- Need drawknife- Joan makes motion to buy drawknife- seconded by Gordon- passed
- May need to find someplace to cut some 6-8" diameter oaks- Ramona may know of some - She will check
- Ed C. has the clinometer
- Van- tried to locate Nelson paint- couldn't find - Ed C and Joan have gallon
- Van has more questions about blazing- should redo 40th St to 76th.
- Ed M will bring some treated lumber on Saturday
- Joan says our trail compares very favorably with some she's seen this summer
HECKMAN MEMORIAL- Scott Haas
- Rich has been talking to Kathy Bietau at Baldwin District, and Beth Heckman
- HQ can put Heckman name on our maps- will serve as a "memorial"
- She is willing to help supply people to help build something
- Several suggestions have surfaced- campsite, boardwalk
- Scott- new proposal for tent pads at the Bowman Lake area where there are 3 sites, but no flat area- might add a 4th site
- Could be included as maintenance- no NEPA regs
- Or a categorical exclusion- either would allow it to happen sooner
- Might also add some benches along the lake-
- Might be able to have memorial sign if things are off the trail
- Could talk more at Exec Com meeting
October EC meeting will be at the Baldwin Office- Scott will check on the Oct 9- 7 pm date
MISCELLANEOUS
- Grand Traverse road crossing signs are very nice- we want to use them
-Van will start to make some
-Possible locations are US 10, M55, Beers Road
- Joan presented option to host a Volunteer Vacation
-Lots of work by for next year, but might plan for 2005 (25th Ann) to work for a week and then attend conference.
- Steve Webster- Striders Run on Sept 20. Need volunteers to help with aid stations
- Hurleys, Char, Vicky, Wilkes, Van,
-$4/ registered runner will be donated
- Thanks to Natasha Miller for donation of $50 of GS cookie money
