Members present: Joan Young, Pat Fisher, Russ Mehlberg, Ramona Venegas, Angie Addington, Jerry Freels, Rich Kreiger, Deb Kreiger, and Mary Soule. Five guests were present, four of whom came for the program which followed the meeting.

Meeting was called to order at 7:03 pm by President Joan Young.

Membership stands at 64. The Heckman Memorial Fund is $1905.00, the Challenge Cost Share money is $730.00, General Fund is $2191.08

Coming activities were noted.

"Business cards" for volunteers were handed out.

Alternatives for the expansion of the Udell Trailhead on M-55 were noted as presented by the Forest Service. Alternative 1 is no change, Alternative 2 is for 16 parking spaces (plus an RV space), Alternative 3 is for 9 spaces (plus an RV space). The group unanimously agreed that we do not support the larger expansion, but would like to see Alternative 3 used. Many Soule moved to endorse Alternative 3, Jerry Freels supported. Motion passed. Joan will write the letter.

National Trails Day-

• The Society of Les Voyageurs from Ann Arbor will help with skit, canoe making demonstration, general atmosphere, etc
• A war canoe is available from Bob Adams of Manistee
• The Field Grant for $1000 has been applied for
• Canoe Instructors class is in Indianapolis, May 17-20. The Kreigers will attend. They have applied to be merit badge counsellors for the Boy Scouts and have sent for information as to what is needed for Girl Scout badges.
• Mary Soule said that a Brownie Troop from Bear Lake with 7-8 girls is interested in participating

Angie showed us a rough draft of the flyer we hope to create to encourage bikers to find alternative places to ride.

Ramona said that Boy Scout Camp Owassippe would like to have someone talk about the trail on April 27, or alternatively June 22, 23. No one was sure they were available.

Ramona asked us to note if we see organized groups on the trail- they are supposed to have a Special Use Permit.
