Magoon Creek Natural Area is located just south of Manistee on Red Apple Road. There are two miles of trails, and a beach to explore. It is maintained by Filer Township.

Turn west off of US 31 on Red Apple Road, which is a blinker light on the south edge of Manistee. Red Apple will bend to the south and the entrance to Magoon Creek Natural Area is on the right (west). Total distance from US 31 is about 4.5 miles. The sign is back away from the road just enough that you will need to watch carefully for the entrance. If you reach Fox Farm Road, you have passed it! You may park at the entrance, or drive in about 0.5 mile to another parking area.

There are about 2 miles of trail at Magoon Creek, a picnic pavilion, well water from a hand pump, and latrines. There is no fee. This is an easy hike. Minimum distance required to get the answer to the question about 1/2 mile. The questions are listed on the entry form, and the question for this hike is on the printable information sheet.

If you prefer to hike in a group, there will be a Spirit of the Woods Chapter of the North Country Trail Association outing here on Saturday evening, July 10. Meet at the pavilion at 8:30 pm. We'll walk the trails, have a snack and watch the sunset. Contact person TBA.

The map below appears on the printable version, and should be adequate for this short hike. Also, free paper maps of the area are available in the white mailbox at the edge of the parking area near Red Apple Road, or from Filer Township, 2505 Filer City Rd, Manistee, MI 49660, 231-723-3138
