General description of segment: FR 400 to FR 630: mostly
upland hardwoods, aspen, and conifers, some bare rock ridges (with
spectacular
views), generally hilly, possible to bushwhack to Cascade Falls Trail
using
map and compass. FR 630 to Norwich Road: mostly flat to gently rolling,
mixed aspen/conifer with minor hardwoods, several clearcuts and beaver
dams, good potential campsites near stream crossing at northernmost
part
of this trail and near east side of beaver pond upstream from there.
Trail conditions (as of 2005): Recent hikers have
not reported difficulty in this area. The trail crosses past
clearcuts in the first half mile or so east of FR 630. At one
time the trail was extremely hard to follow in this area, but there are
no recent reports of hikers with problems.
