Segment 6, Forest Road 326 to
Forest Road 400 (east half)
Length: 3.5 miles (3.35 miles from Bush Creek to Forest
Road
480, 0.15 miles from FR 480 to FR 400)
Ownership: U.S. Forest Service
Responsible for maintenance: U.S. Forest Service
Developments along trail: Signs at trailhead on FR 400,
bridge over Bush Creek.
General description of segment: Extremely scenic,
spectacular
views, high cliffs, potential campsites near Bush Creek, a dependable
stream
(though best sites are at least a few hundred feet from the stream),
some
potential spectacular campsites (with no water source) on ridges,
potential
campsite along small stream about 0.4 miles east of Bush Creek bridge,
mostly hardwoods on ridges (some areas with lots of red oak), mixed
forest
in low areas, bare rock areas with sparse vegetation in places on
ridges.
No roads in this area are plowed in winter.
There are also good potential campsites near the small,
normally-dependable
stream between FR 400 and FR 480. However, one would hear the
sounds
of vehicles on both roads, and with leaves off one would see vehicles
on
both roads. FR 400 usually receives light traffic, however, and
traffic
is extremely light on FR 480.
Trail conditions (as of 2005): In general, this
trail should be easy to follow. Some trail work was needed in the
first half mile north of FR 480 as of about 2004, but the trail is
followable. ATVs have been using the first 750
feet or so east of the Bush Creek bridge.
