General description of segment Mixed hardwoods, aspen, and conifers, mostly younger forest, alders along Sandstone Creek, some clearcutting near trail, Sandstone Creek is likely to have water in all but the driest conditions, good camping on either side of Sandstone Creek on uplands not far from creek (not in creek valley).  U.S. 45 is the only road plowed in winter.
It is not possible to drive to the point where the NCT crosses FR 733-F.  Once can sometimes drive to the point on FR 733-F about 0.2 miles west of the trail crossing (where FR 733-F makes a 90 degree bend.  However, there is a gate on FR 733-F which MIGHT be closed.  It is located partway between FR 733 and the 90 degree bend.
Trail conditions (as of 2003): Trail should be easy to follow.
