This segment of the NCT traverses the city of Marquette via the Marquette City Bike Trail system from the MDOT Welcome Center on the north edge of Harvey to Hawley Street for a length of approximately 6.0 miles. This trail follows the beautiful Lake Superior coastline north from Harvey. At the mouth of the Carp River, the bike trail temporarily ends and a road walk along Lake Street takes you past South Beach Park. At the north end of Lake Street, the bike path begins again and passes through Founders Landing and Mattson Park. Continue on the bike path past McCarty's Cove Park, and Shiras Park. Parking, picnicking and restrooms are available in all these locations. Hikers may also wish to take a side spur into downtown Marquette to explore the city, which has an extensive biking/hiking trail system. In addition, at the northern portion of this segment, hikers may wish to continue north past Hawley Street on the Marquette City Bike Trail to see the sights at Presque Isle Park, truly a gem of the city (http://www.mqtcty.org/departments/parksrec/presque.htm). The City of Marquette Parks and Recreation website (http://www.mqtcty.org/departments/parksrec/parks.htm) describes the variety of parks and paths that help make Marquette a truly recreation-friendly city. Vehicle access for this segment is abundant. You can park at any of the following as well as on city streets/parking lots off Lakeshore Drive:
