Next segment: 8 - Kawbawgam Pocket Park to Welcome Center

Kawbawgam Pocket

Park The Pocket Park is located on Kawbawgam Road, just south of M-28 East, approximately 5 miles east of the US-41/M-28 intersection. Volunteers have installed swings, a basketball court, a restroom, and picnic table.

Segment 7 of the trail is mostly non-certified and travels in a westerly direction from the end of Segment 6 on the unimproved road, not the railroad grade, a snowmobile trail. After 300 feet the trail turns to the south and heads into the woods, passes near Lake LeVasseur where parking is available and then connects with Kawbawgam Pocket Park and Kawbawgam Road on the west for 3.95 miles.

Vehicle access for Segment 7 is at the following sites:

  • Off M-28, 8.65 miles east of the intersection of M-28 and US-41 in Harvey there is a seasonal drive to the south. (Note: Watch closely for this drive. Coming from the west on M-28 you will first see a drive marked “Owl” followed by one marked “D”. The next drive is the one you want. From the east, it is about 1.1 miles west of “Lakenenland” and “Shot Point”.) Depending upon the season, you can drive about 500 feet into this drive and park. The trail follows the old unimproved road to the west, not the old railroad grade, a snowmobile trail.

  • Off M-28, 5.4 miles east of the intersection of M-28 and US-41 in Harvey, via Kawbawgam Road.

  • Turn south unto Kawbawgam Rd. Go about 0.1 mi and park in the Kawbawgam Pocket Park parking area to the east. The trail picks up heading east from this point.

  • Turn south unto Kawbawgam Rd. Go 1.55 miles and turn into the seasonal DNR public access road to Lake LeVasseur. Parking is available at the public access site. The trail heads both east and west from just west of the parking area.
