Mulligan West to Cole's Creek

Segment 21 Mulligan West to Cole's Creek
Trail adopter(s): None
Segment length: 4.5 miles
Last update: March 2010
On the trail:

Note: This segment is a temporary bushwhacking area. We have done some flagging but that was a couple of years ago and may no longer be visible. There is no trail so making your way is easiest with a GPS unit and a waypoint to Cole’s Creek (N46 40.333 W87 51.690) on the west, an old drill point (N46 40.410 W87 50.912) in the middle and the Mulligan West road (N46 39.585 W87 48.371) access on the east.

Westbound: From your vehicle on Mulligan West at N46 39.585 W87 48.371, head northwest up a very steep old two track that is deep with erosion. Once you are up on the ridge, follow it around in an arc to your left. Head towards an old drill point at N46 40.410 W87 50.912 then aim for the east end of Segment 22 Cole’s Creek at N46 40.333 W87 51.690

Eastbound: From the east end of Segment 22 Cole’s Creek at N46 40.333 W87 51.690 aim towards an old drill point at N46 40.410 W87 50.912. Take the ridge around to the south east and go down an old rutted two track down a very steep grade to Mulligan West at N46 39.585 W87 48.371

Previous segment: 20 - County Road 510 to Red Road to Mulligan West
Next segment: 22 - Cole's Creek to Unnamed Road

Vehicle access for this segment is via:

  • US-41 2 miles west of Marquette to County Road 502 (Midway Drive). Follow County Road 502 for about 0.25 mile. Turn right unto County Road 510. After about 11 miles, turn left onto the Red Road (County Road GGT). Follow the Red Road for another 1.5 miles. It will take a left and head south. Continue following the Red Road for about 2.3 miles when it will curve to the right, again heading west above the Dead River Storage Basin. At the line between Ishpeming (North Central) Township and Champion (East Central) Township the Red Road changes from County Road GGT to County Road AAT. Stay on the Red Road (County Road AAT at this point west) for another 5.8 miles. Turn right at the intersection onto County Road AKC and at the fork just north of the corner, keep left for another 1.1 mile. Park along the road.
