Westbound: From Echo Lake Road, head into the woods, climbing up a ridge. Follow the ridge where you can see nice views of Lake Superior when the trees are barren. Turn left, travel northwest towards Gokey Rock, then more northerly. Some of this is on old logging roads. As you approach the south side of the Little Garlic River, turn right and follow the river east to County Road 550. Turn left, crossing the Little Garlic River on the CR 550 bridge. End in the parking area of the Elliott Donnelley Wilderness.
Eastbound: Leaving the Elliott Donnelley Wilderness parking area, turn right and cross the Little Garlic River on the County Road 550 bridge. At the end of the guardrail, turn sharply right and follow the trail up and along the south side of the Little Garlic River. After about a mile, the trail turns southerly, heading towards Gokey Rock. Some of this trail is on old logging roads. At Gokey Rock, turn slightly southeast and follow the trail to a ridge with views of Lake Superior when the trees are barren. Turn right and follow the ridge towards Echo Lake Road. |
