Segment 14 County Road 550 to Wetmore Landing
Trail adopter(s): Rebecca Marjonen, 906-226-7380 / beckym1355@yahoo.com
Segment length: 1.1 miles
Last update: March 2010
On the trail:

Westbound: From Country Road 550 go up into the woods on rocky terrain. There are great rocky areas through the woods as the trail curves to the southeast. After about 0.6 mile you will come to the intersection of the Sugarloaf Mountain Spur trail, which leads straight ahead. To follow the NCNST, turn left (northeast), take a set of steps down hill where you curve back northwest following the lakeshore. The pines are tall and beautiful in this segment that ends at the intersection of the trail to the Wetmore Landing parking area.

Eastbound: From the Wetmore Landing parking area, head east towards Lake Superior where you pick up the NCNST. Turn right (southeast), following the trail along the lakeshore, turn right as you climb the steps up the hill then come to the intersection of the Sugarloaf Mountain Spur trail that leads to the south. Turn left (northwest) and take the NCNST across a ridge and over some rocky outcroppings then down to County Road 550.

Other trail: Sugarloaf Mountain Spur
Previous segment: 13 - N of Compeau Creek to County Road 550
Next segment: 15 - Wetmore to Little Presque Isle Point

Vehicle access for this segment is via:

  • County Road 550 (the Big Bay Road) approximately 0.7 mile north of Sugarloaf Mountain parking area or approximately 5.7 miles north of the intersection of County Road 550 and Sugarloaf Avenue in Marquette. The trail crosses County Road 550 here. There is no parking area and County Road 550 is very busy so be sure to pull as far off the road as possible.

  • County Road 550 (the Big Bay Road) approximately 6.1 miles north of the intersection of County Road 550 and Sugarloaf Avenue in Marquette, turn right into the Wetmore Landing parking area.
