County Road 510 to Red Road to Mulligan West

Segment 20 County Road 510 to Red Road to Mulligan West
Trail adopter(s): None
Segment length: 16 miles
Last update: March 2010
On the trail:

Westbound: From the Noquemanon County Road 510 Trailhead turn right and take County Road 510 north for 5 miles to the Red Road (County Road GGT). Turn left and follow the Red Road for another 1.5 miles. It will take a left and head south. Continue following the Red Road for about 2.3 miles when it will curve to the right, again heading west above the Dead River Storage Basin. At the line between Ishpeming (North Central) Township and Champion (East Central) Township the Red Road changes from County Road GGT to County Road AAT. Stay on the Red Road (County Road AAT at this point west) for another 5.8 miles. Turn right at the intersection onto County Road AKC and at the fork just north of the corner, keep left for another 1.1 mile.

Eastbound: From Mulligan West head south on the logging road until you hit the Red Road (also known as County Road AAT at this point) at approximately 1.1 mile. Turn right and follow the Red Road southeast for about 5.8 miles as it reaches the north side of the Dead River Storage Basin. At the line between Champion (East Central) Township and Ishpeming (North Central) Township, the Red Road changes from County Road AAT to County Road GGT. It is still the Red Road. It will make a left curve heading generally north for about 2.3 miles when it will turn to the east (right) for the last 1.5 miles before it intersects with County Road 510. At County Road 510 turn right and go for about 5 miles south to the Noquemanon County Road 510 Trailhead.

Previous segment: 19 - Noque Parking (at Forestville) to County Road 510
Next segment: 21 - Mulligan West to Cole's Creek

This segment is currently all a temporary road walk. We have been scouting through this area and hope to have a trail at least marked that hikers can use to navigate through in the near future.

Vehicle access for this segment is via:

  • US-41 2 miles west of Marquette to County Road 502 (Midway Drive). Follow County Road 502 for about 0.25 mile. Turn right unto County Road 510. The trailhead marker is 6 miles up on the east (right) side of the roadway.

  • Since this is all a road walk, one could drive to any portion, park along side the road and hike.

As you get out and hike this or any of our segments, please contact the trail adopter or Cliff Stammer (906-228-9897 / cnstammer@charter.net) with reports of trail conditions, including blow-downs, washouts, and inadequate blazing.
