Westbound: 2.9 miles trail from parking area near the beaver pond, along the western edge of the Rock River Canyon Wilderness, crossing the Rock River and continuing on a logging road to the Silver Creek bridge.
Eastbound: 2.9 miles trail from the Silver Creek bridge along a logging road then into the woods to the Rock River, crossing the Rock River and following the western edge of the Rock River Canyon Wilderness north and eventually reaching the parking area near the beaver pond. |
| Previous segment: 1 - Rock River Road to parking before Beaver Pond |
| Next segment: 3 - Silver Creek Bridge to Rumely Road |
Vehicle access for the western end of the segment is via the intersection of M-94 and Rumely Road west of Eben Junction in Alger County.
The east end of this segment can be tricky. There is a beaver pond that makes it difficult to cross so you must work your way south to find an appropriate crossing point then head back north to pick up the trail. Part of this follows an old logging road that is no longer used. As you reach the west side of the Rock River Canyon Wilderness, turn south and follow the trail down the western edge of the Wilderness. The next portion of this segment (non-certified NCT) begins at the Rock River on the west edge of the Rock River Canyon Wilderness. The crossing is difficult because a maze of beaver dams create a virtual swamp, and the continuation of the trail to the west is not always easy to locate. Follow the trail in the woods and after about a mile, you come out on an old logging road. Follow the logging road to the Silver Creek Bridge.
