Completed Trail - Updated December 13, 2009

ENTIRE TRAIL, CHIPPEWA NATIONAL FOREST TO ITASCA STATE PARK COMPLETED NOVEMBER 19, 2009!

Since being formed in the spring of 2002, the Chapter has been engaged in extending the NCT from the west boundary of the Chippewa National Forest toward Itasca State Park.  In ’04 a spur trail was developed to a campground on Waboose Lake.  The campground has two tent pads, a fire ring and a wilderness latrine.  There is an additional spur trail near Nelson Lake.  This spur trail goes completely around Nelson Lake thus connecting the North Country Trail to the Nelson Lake Campground area.

The goal for 2009 was met, making it possible for a thru hiker to get through this area, therefore the entire Itasca Moraine Chapter portion of the North Country National Scenic Trail without having to resort to road hiking.  Section HC1D has a massive wetlands to traverse.  A temporary trail has been constructed and blazed.  See Trail Under Construction for more information on this topic.
