Heritage Chapter
Welcome to scenic northeast Wisconsin! The Heritage Chapter of the North Country Trail Association invites you to enjoy the forests, lakes, and rivers of our trail country in Iron and Ashland Counties.
Our chapter was formed to develop, maintain, and promote use of the North Country National Scenic Trail from Copper Falls State Park near Mellen, WI to the Wisconsin-Michigan border near Hurley, Wisconsin. Our main activities have included: marking, certification, and maintenance of the Uller Hiking and Ski Trail segment; layout, planning and initial construction of other segments east and west of the Uller Trail and a number of public event activities in Iron County and surrounding area. This area of the North Country National Scenic Trail remains one of the most remote sections of the trail in Wisconsin.

Bears - Northern Wisconsin has much remote back country through which the North Country Trail passes. Naturally the bear population is much higher than other parts of the country. Hikers and overnight campers should take special precautions with food. No food should be eaten or kept in tents. If possible, meals should be prepared well away from tent areas. Food should be placed in suspended packs where bears cannot reach them away from the tent area.
