How Can I Get Involved?

Interested in getting involved with our chapter?  We are always looking for new members and volunteers.  Here are some common questions you may have about getting involved.

I’ve never been involved with anything like this before.  What can I do to help?

We are always for new volunteers, even those who may be brand new to trail building and maintenance.  In addition, we are always looking for help with other activities such as tool maintenance, camp cooking, outreach, etc…  Many of these activities need not involve trips to northern Wisconsin.  If you’re interested in helping in any way, please let us know and we will see how we can use you.

The trail is pretty far away.  How would I get there and where would I stay?

Many of the Heritage Chapter’s most active members come from areas far away from the trail’s route in Ashland and Iron Counties.  In fact, many are from the Milwaukee area and members often carpool together up to the trail area.

For most trail events, free camping is available, either at Copper Falls State Park or other nearby locations.

I’m interested in getting involved, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make a lot of events, or even whether this is for me

Volunteers can attend as many or as few events as they are able to and may spend as much time at an event as their schedule permits.  There are no minimum attendance requirements.  We welcome your help whenever you are able to provide it.

In addition, we welcome those who may wish to try one event before becoming more involved.

Do I need to be a member of the NCTA to volunteer on the trail?

No.  While volunteers are encouraged to partake in the benefits of membership, we welcome help from members and non-members alike.  But remember – membership in the NCTA for new members is available at a discounted rate.  Just put the name down of a Heritage Chapter officer as your sponsor.  Visit this link for more information on becoming an NCT member
