Hello NCT/HSS Members and Friends,

HSS May 14th Hiking Rendezvous!  Don’t forget your camera! 

    May 14—HSS Annual Hiking Rendezvous—A full afternoon and evening of events is on the agenda for the celebration. You can choose any or all of the events!  Bring your friends and relatives!
    Meet at the Castle Rock Trailhead on Castle Rock Road at NOON for a brown bag lunch around a bonfire, HIKE the Hiawatha—hikes of varying lengths will be offered! 
    The 8 mile hike shuttle will leave at 12:10 PM to Brevort Lake Road.  Tom Walker will be the leader for the 8 mile hike! 
    5:00 PM Social Gathering at the HSS Trail Town Center
    6:00 PM Dinner at the Village Inn in St. Ignace
    After Dinner:
            Brief HSS Award Ceremony
            “Views From the Trail—Photography”  by Kathleen Joustie
           “Tahqua Trail Reclaimed—A Day Hike Presentation”Photo Presentation by Tom Walker (This presentation was a hit at the Quiet Water Symposium March 5th at MSU! )

Other upcoming HSS Events:

1.  June 1st to June 5th—Volunteer Session with camping—Clear NCT trail tread for the June 25th Two Hearted Run OR take on the C-500 Benching Challenge and work on the options mentioned below for National Trails Day!  Camping at Tahquamenon Falls State Park and probably an optional one meal at the Brewery & Pub.  Free camping for HSS volunteers!  More information to follow!  Contact: Call or text Stan at 989-350-2826 or Kay at kay1940@lighthouse.net

2.  June 4thNATIONAL TRAILS DAY—Two Events:

    Clear trail tread, build trail tread, bench a challenging hill, or maintain a section of the trail!  Not in the mood to work—HIKE—a HSS leader provided!   Get out there! 

        A.  Culhane Lake Hike—Meet at the Culhane Campground at 10:00 AM—Carpool to the Two Hearted River Campground—Hike the Lake Superior Shoreline—check out the new growth in the Duck Lake Fire area—back to Culhane Lake campground—4.9 Mile trek!  Bring water, dress for the weather and prepare for the flying insects—Contact Stan or Kay at 989-350-2826 or kay1940@lighthouse.net .  Bring your camera!

        B.  C-500 Sandy Hill Benching Project—Meet at the NCT Crossing north of the second Little Two Hearted River crossing at 10:00 AM.  We will be benching a hill and building new tread to get around a dangerous sandy hill on the ORV trail!  Dress for the insects and for manual labor.  Tools and snacks will be provided!  Bring water and your camera!

        Camping at Tahquamenon Falls Lower Falls Campground is free for HSS Volunteers!

3.  July 1st—Watch for upcoming information on a Facebook Hike Photo Challenge!  Choose a favorite hike in the HSS section between the Big Mac and the Little Two Hearted River foot bridge—Hike it—Take photos—Enter no more than two photos in the contest!  There will be a prize!
