Please note that condition reports age, and we do not always receive updates. Be sure to look at the date of the report and if it is old, contact the appropriate person to see if a problem has been solved. You can help us a lot if you know of things that are out of date, to let us know!
send a current trail condition report which supercedes other printed or posted information. It will be posted on the appropriate state page.

Also in New York, see Finger Lakes Trail Condition Reports which are kept very current and are NOT duplicated here (this will open in a separate window)
Note that all sections of the Finger Lakes Trail/North Country Trail on private land are closed the first Monday in February each year for 24 hours.

NY- Aug 23, 2005 FLTC M-1/CT-1:

Trail is in fine condition with a few blow-downs, easy detours. The huts are all great, even the porcupine hut (Stony Brook). New huts like Beck’s Hollow and Willis Creek are fantastic. Where trail crosses ASP 3, more blazes are needed. Lost it for a while but followed ASP 3 toward Quaker Lake about 1/4 mile and turned up Kaiser Cabin rd. Found trail on the right. 20 miles in 2 days, very enjoyable. Ended at Willow Bay in Pa.

NY- July 22, 2005 NY-04 North Segment:

The CNY Chapter, NCTA, reports that at the Nelson Road Trailhead the road has been widened and repaved, further reducing parking. A joint effort by the Town Highway Department and NCTA (scheduled for August) will provide parallel parking for three cars, with the gate area to be kept clear for emergency and maintenance access. A culvert installation, some grading, foliage trimming, and finishing with a stone surface are planned.

NY- July 22, 2005 NY-04 South Segment:

The CNY Chapter, NCTA, reports conditions near Emhoff Road.

Tread improvements have been made between Bingley and Emhoff to the switchback trail. There is major reconstruction underway at Emhoff Road. Increasing traffic volume, limited sight distance and deterioration due to inadequate drainage were major impact factors. The road there has been widened by two feet causing significant impact to the trail: loss of screening foliage, banks of dirt and stone are hazardous to hikers. However, in the long run there is now a potential for parking for 2-3 cars. The NCTA will supply the stone fill required and the Highway Department will create the parking area- a cooperative venture. Drainage will also be improved. Watch for work in this area if hiking.

NY- Oct. 4, 2002 NY-04 South Segment:

The CNY Chapter, NCTA, reports that two new sections of the Link Trail (NCT side trail between the Finger Lakes Trail and the NCT) opened August 31. You can now hike off road between Muller Hill State Forest (east of the Carpenter Rd. trailhead) north to Rt. 80. There is still a 0.3 mi. on-road section along Rt. 80 (go west) and then you can hike to the Tioughnioga Wildlife Management Area and to Dugway Road*. From Dugway Road north, the trail is open to Carey Hill Road near Chittenango Falls State Park.

* Expect part of this trail north of Rt. 80, between the road and State land to be closed during Big Game hunting season (sorry!) by request of one of the private landowners.
