To find
out more about the North Country Trail in a specific state, click on one of the states in the map to the
right. This will take you to a detailed description of the trail in the state, a slide show with a few images from
the state, and information about local Chapters and other partner organizations. We do have some general guide information and small scale maps for selected segments also available on the site. Click on Trail Focus in the menu to the left to explore these popular articles. While you're here, also be sure to read about the adventures of those few hardy souls that actually have hiked the entire 4,000 mile length of the trail. You'll find these accounts in the End-to-End Journals. Within each State section, you will find excerpted material from the book Following the North Country National Scenic Trail, by Wes Boyd. To see the entire contents of the book, click on Full Text to the left. History buffs will enjoy Roots of the Trail. This page provides the text of a speech given at our 1997 Annual Conference by Tom Gilbert, National Park Service Superintendent in charge of the Trail. Tom has worked in various capacities for the Trail practically since the beginning and provides some great insights, recollections and little known facts. Finally, Wes Boyd has been working on a guide to the trail, with maps and text. There is a lot of useful information contained here. Wes points out that a trail which is still being created is a difficult kind of creature to pin down with a guidebook. But his considerable effort is available by clicking on Guide to the Trail |
