2008 NCTA Western Michigan Chapter Calendar of Events
The information listed in this calendar is our best assesment of
what we hope to accomplish this year. Some of the details are yet
to be determined and things may change as the year progresses. It
is always best to check our
website
for updates or reach the contact person of the event for any last
minute changes.
Occasionally, outings have to be canceled because of unexpected events.
Outing leaders strongly urge you to sign up for all events using the e-mail
links provided in each event, or phone number if you do not have e-mail, so
that you can be notified in the event that plans change.
OCTOBER
Saturday, October 4 - Annual Fall Fun Day at the
Birch Grove Schoolhouse
Please come and enjoy yourselves - the schedule is as follows:
- 9:30 AM -- Juice, Coffee, rolls and conversation.
- 10:00 AM -- Car pool to the 6-Mile Road trailhead, hike north on the North Country Trail to the Birch Grove Trail, then south on the BGT to 5-Mile road and back to the schoolhouse, a distance of 5.5 miles. Shorter distances are possible.
- 1:00 PM -- Delicious lunch provided by our incomparable Stephanie Black.
- 1:45 PM -- SHORT membership meeting.
- 2:00 PM -- Video, "The Story of Stuff" and discussion led by Lisa Locke.
- 2:45 PM -- Tom Learmont's DVD about mountain hiking out west.
- 3:30 PM -- Tree inventory and other cool stuff presented by JerriLynn Osmer.
- All Day Long -- White elephant sale.
October 9-13 - WMI Fall Colors Backpacking Trip
Hike along the NCT in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, from Whitefish Bay to Grand Marais, MI.

Saturday, October 11 - WMI Fall Day Hike: Manistee River
This will be an 11 mile long day hike on the Manistee River Trail. The hike
will begin at 9:00 A.M. You can car camp the night before or drive up in the
morning as you wish. Hike details will be available closer to the date of this
event.

Saturday, November 1 - Four Creeks Hike in the Manistee National Forest
This hike will be about 7 miles in length. We'll hike along the NCT through diverse forests, crossing four beautiful, crystal clear water creeks along the way.
