Yankee Springs Recreation Area Trail Re-route

Here is a map or aerial image (your choice!) showing the track of the proposed re-routing of the North Country National Scenic Trail in the Yankee Springs Recreation Area between Norris Road and Gun Lake Road at Hall Lake.  The re-route has been approved by the DNR, and work is beginning this spring.

By playing with the drop-down menus in the upper right corner of the map image you can

  • tone down the background layer to better visualize details on the ground, and

  • select whether the background layer is a Google™ road map, terrain map, a satellite image, or a USGS topo map.  Scroll the image to the right if necessary to activate the background layer selection menu

You can also zoom in or out or drag the image to change the center point.

March 9, 2009 update:  Note: this map display is a work in progress.  We figured out today how to display waypoints along the track indicating the various trail and road intersections, the Little Mac bridge and boardwalk, and interpretive points of interest.  The list of waypoints along the right hand margin still needs work to enhance lucidity....   Right now the list shows the codes saved in the Webmaster's GPS unit.  There is a better way to compose the content of this list, and we'll keep working on it.  Among other things....  When we get stuff tweaked more or less to what we want to see, we'll figure out a quick 'n easy way you can print a paper copy to take with you on the trail.

March 14, 2009 update:  We've added the track of the original horse trail (in red) so you can compare the old route with the new re-route (in green).  The old trail might still be used by long distance hikers wanting to access the Deep Lake Campground located east of Hall Lake.

You can download PDF versions of this map to take with you on the Trail.  Click here: letter-size map or legal-size map.
