Newsletter Chapter Meeting August 2001 Treasurers Report Bob Benham reports we have $1,636.56 on account. Trails Report Charles Krammin reports that some work was completed on the trail in the Battle Creek area between Service Center Road and River Road to the west. Only six people showed up, and it was pointed out that we need more bodies to help create the trail in the Battle Creek area. We are also working out the final details for creating trail on the VA (Veterns Administration) and Battle Creek Unlimited Property. Charles and Annette Chapman are worknig on maps of certified trail, useable trail waiting to be certified, road routes, and proposed trail. Oh, and the next time you are driving along M-179, look for the "North Country Trail" sign! Hey, you, from Battle Creek! Creating trail is work, but trust us, it is lots of fun too. Until further notice, all trail will be created in the Battle Creek area and will start at 7am at LaVerne's at 915 Territorial (corner of Territorial and Woodward), in Battle Creek. Or, meet in the parking lot at 8am if you don't want breakfast. Do not miss this opportunity to build NEW trail !! Promotion and Website Visit the website and forward comments (we like positive ones) to Gail Speer, who works very hard on keeping us up to date in cyberspace. Note: the September newsletter (the web version) will be late in being published, as our webmaster will be hiking on the NCTA in Minnesota. Membership Matters! Welcome new members Andrew and Peggy Leat, Robert and Janet Whinnen, Craig McClure, and Gerald Phillips! Planning Tom Garnett made a presentation regarding creating, staffing, and maintaining volunteer committees for our chapter. He proposed two categories: administration of the trail, such as promotion, events, and education. And, the trail itself, creating and manitaining the trail. Those present offered their ideas and you are encouraged to attend our next membership meeting to offer your input. September Meeting Our September meeting will be held in the Barry Township hall at 7pm, on September 12, 2001. We look forward to your coming!
