If possible, our existing National Park Service grants should be modified so as to acquire weed whips and training in their safe use. Register boxes should be installed at several locations along the trail. Construction should be commenced on the Battle Creek to August Trail segment. The Trail building activity in Calhoun Count should be completed. We should continue in our efforts to have the State of Michigan install signs similar to the sign recently erected on the Chief Noonday Road. Volunteer Hours: All members should keep track and report their volunteer hours to the NCTA (or any contact person on our contact page), as we get credits for funding and persuasion efforts. We will periodically publish how we are doing in comparison to other Chapters. Membership: 190 non-business members and 10 business members by year's end is our goal. A comprehensive program for membership recruitment and retention should be adopted by the Chapter. A Committee should be established and a Chairperson appointed to establish this program. Activities: More members need to volunteer to lead hikes so that at least one hike a month takes place. Community Education: The Chapter needs a plan for educating the community regarding the North Country Trail. Volunteers Wanted Charles Krammin, our Volunteer Coordinator, is looking for people to restore the old Yankee Springs Hotel sign, restore the cistern at Yankee Springs, and install carsonite posts and decals.
