Treasurer’s Report

Bob Benham, our Florida bound treasurer, reports approximately $1000 in our account.

Activities Report

Barb Vandyken is looking for assistance in planning all those activities.  Anyone who wishes to help, please contact her.  Barb is always in need for members to step forward and present, speak, or demonstrate a vacation or hiking skill at future membership meetings.  See the "Calendar of Events" for upcoming presentations.

North Country Trail News

Dave Cornell updated us on the NCTA moving its offices to Lowell.  This move should be complete sometime after the first of the year.

We would like to offer the national office assistance by trying to have one of our members (you?) volunteer their services once a month.   Contact Dave Cornell for information.

Membership update

Membership was at 155 with 5 business members.

Trails Report

Charles Krammin is still working with the Thornapple Township and the Village of Middleville, and presented them with a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).  We are currently waiting for feedback from these agencies.   Also he is working with the Barry State Game Area in working out an acceptable trail location through the Middleville State Game Area.

Trail has been flagged int he Veterans Hospital Area and the Battle Creek Unlimited Industrial Park.  Once approval is given in these areas, the intent is to begin construction of the trail.

November 4th the trail crew constructed a Kiosk in the Kellogg Forest and maintained the trail.  In the Kellogg Forest, blue blazes have been re-painted and markings have been imporved.

Dave Cornell has been working with the various Land Managers in trying to set up a meeting / hike in the VA Hospital and Battle Creek Unlimited Industrial Park.

Dave and Charles have been working with Annette Chapman and the Calhoun County Development Authority to proceed with work in the area east of Battle Creek.

Thanks to Bob Seward and Sheryl Drenth for helping with the November newsletter!

Membership Matters!

We are closing in on 200 members. And, when we do, we can send this letter out at the less expensive bulk mail rate!  Let's keep recruiting!

New Faces

Welcome Tiffany Halfmann, the North Country Trail Cartographer.  Tiffany started in August and is responsible for all those wonderful maps we use while hiking.

Tiffany explained all the equipment she uses, mostly powerful computers and programs, to produce the maps.  She says the biggest change we will notice with our maps is that they are moving from a 1:24 000 scale to a 1:100 000 scale.
