Newsletter Chapter Meeting October 11, 2000 Next Meeting: November 8, 2000 at 7pm at the Barry County Township Hall in Delton, Michigan. Treasurers Report Bob Benham, our trusted treasurer reports $1171.15 in our account plus a few bucks in petty cash. Activities Report Barb Vandyken reported on the recent hike held in Calhoun County. From her report it was obvious everyone had a great time. Apparently our fearless trail blazer, Charles Krammin, gave a demonstration in how not to cross a stream. North Country Trail News Dave Cornell reported that he and Annette Chapman would be calling on the Harper Creek School System in the not too distant future to gain permission for the trail to cross land owned by the system. Annette reported that the Battle Creek Community Development System had no objection to the Park Services suggestion, that the trail corridor along the Kalamazoo River be subject to an agreement that would allow for a separate foot trail in the event of the future development of a portion of the corridor for a multi use trail. Dave Cornell also reported on the possibility of the National Headquarters moving to a new location in Lowell, Michigan. Dave also shared about the successful efforts to get a larger budget request thru Congress which would aid the N.C.T.A.. Tom Funke, our newsletter editor, has requested that anyone who wishes to have an item published must get the item to him shortly after the monthly meeting. Gail Speer, our web site manager, asked that people forward to her any interesting photos or articles relating to the trail. NOTICE OF VOTE ON BYLAW CHANGE - at the November meeting, scheduled for November 8, 2000, at the Barry Township hall at 7:00 PM, a vote to change a bylaw provision that prohibits any officer from serving more than two terms will, if approved, be modified to prohibit only the President from serving more than two consecutive terms. Tiffany Halfmann, the N. C. T. A. map maker, will be at our November meeting - do not miss it! Membership update Membership was at 155 with 5 business members. Trails Report What in the Blue Blazes is Happening! Charles Krammin has attended meetings the Thornapple Township and the Village of Middleville, and presented them with a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). We are currently waiting for feed back from these agencies. Once an agreement is reached, we will be flagging proposed trail in these areas. Trail will soon be flagged in the Veterans Hospital Area and the Battle Creek Unlimited Industrial Park. Once approval is given in these areas, the intent is to begin construction of trail. October 7th the trail crew maintained trail in the Kellogg Forest and Dr. Sackets, property. In the Kellogg Forest, Blue Blazes have been re-painted and markings have been improved from the Covered Bridge area north. When we get our paint re-supplied, we will re-paint Blue Blazes from the covered bridge south to the Kalamazoo River in Augusta. Upcoming Trail Work Days
Trail Crew will meet for breakfast at 7:00 am at the Prairieville Inn and leave for the trail at 8:00 am. Those not wishing to partake in the breakfast, may meet at the Prairieville Inn and join up with the Trail Crew at 8:00am. As always, we welcome all who wish to partake in this meaningful work and appreciate what ever help they offer. Trails Day Plans Janet Wolfe scheduled a meeting of interested volunteers for our 2001 Trails Day celebration for 11/11 (changed from 11/18) from 2 to 4 PM.
