NCNST Connector — MSGA to Barry-Kent County Line

Here is a map or aerial image (your choice!) showing the current track of the North Country National Scenic Trail between Parmalee Road and Baker Avenue in northern Barry and southern Kent Counties.  (See also our map of the NCNST between Garbow and Parmalee Roads.)

The color code:

  • The red track shows the NCNST connector roadwalk between the Parmalee Road crossing and 108th Street, which is the county line between Barry and Kent Counties.

  • The green track shows the off-road NCNST section following an old two-track through the Middleville State Game Area along the 108th Street right-of-way and the county line between Harris Creek Road (called Morse Lake Road in Kent County north of 108th Street) and Solomon Road (called Coldwater Ave SE on the Kent County side of 108th).

  • The blue track shows the connector roadwalk along 108th Street/county line between Solomon Road and Wood School Road (called Baker Ave on the Kent County side of 108th), where it turns north and follows Baker Ave into Kent County.

In the map displayed here, the Trail track is overlaid on a Google street map/satellite image hybrid.  You can change the background to a topo map, a USGS aerial image, or a simple street map or satellite image by making your selection from the right-hand drop-down menu in the upper right corner of the map image.

You can tone down the background layer to better visualize details on the ground by changing the percentage value in the other drop-down menu right next to the background selector.

Scroll the image to the right (using the bottom scroll bar) if necessary to activate the background layer selection menu to the right of the map image.

By using the map tool in the upper left corner you can also zoom in or out, and you can drag the image to change the center point.  With some of our maps, zooming in, then click 'n dragging the map in whichever direction you want, makes it easier to make sense of the marked waypoints, which in some cases are a bit bunched together otherwise.

Trail note(s):

  • In the woods to the east of Harris Creek Road there seems to be an unauthorized gunnery target range.  There is also a target range on the private land north of the 108th Street right-of-way between Morse Lake Road and Coldwater Avenue.  Exercise caution when walking in these areas and stay on the trail.  (If you have questions, contact the Webmaster.)

Hunting area:  Note that this Trail section is in a State Game Area:
•  Exercise courtesy, common sense and caution when hiking in hunting areas during hunting season.
•  We recommend avoiding hunting areas altogether during firearm deer season November 15-30
•  During hunting season, wear blaze orange garments and/or head covering that are clearly visible 360° around you.
•  Keep pets on a leash.
•  Stay on the trail.
•  See the Department of Natural Resources & Environment Web site re: dates of hunting seasons.
