NCNST Connector — KBS to BSGA
Here is a map or aerial image (your
choice!) showing the current track of the North Country
National Scenic Trail roadwalk/connector trail between Kellogg Biological
Station (KBS) in Kalamazoo County and the McKibben Road trailhead
in the Barry State Game Area (BSGA), Barry County. (See also our
maps of the NCNST through KBS and the
south-central section of the BSGA.)
In the map displayed here, the Trail
track is overlaid on a Google street map. You can change
the background to a topo map, a USGS aerial image, or a Google street map/satellite image
hybrid by
making your selection from the right-hand drop-down menu in the upper right corner of the map image.
You can tone down the background layer
to better visualize details on the ground by changing the percentage value
in the other drop-down menu right next to the background selector.
Scroll the image to the right (using
the bottom scroll bar) if necessary to activate the
background layer selection menu to the right of the map image.
By using the map tool in the upper
left corner you can also zoom in or out, and you can drag
the image to change the center point. With some of our maps, zooming in, then click 'n dragging
the map in whichever direction you want, makes it easier to make sense of the
marked waypoints, which in some cases are a bit bunched together otherwise.

Trail note(s):

This connector trail roadwalk
follows Baseline Road between KBS and Noonan Road.
Baseline Road runs along the county line between Kalamazoo County
to the south and Barry County to the north. Turning north onto
Noonan Road it enters Barry County and heads toward the
Barry State Game Area and the Yankee Springs Recreation Area.
The trail passes through the hamlet of Prairieville in
Prairieville Township, Barry County.

This map tracks the NCNST from
KBS to the McKibben Road trailhead rather than the Mullen Road trailhead
shown on the south BSGA map. The trail north from the Mullen Road
trailhead has not been maintained, and the first half mile or so is very
difficult to follow. We suggest you skip it and continue northwest
from the McKibben Road trailhead.

Logging operations have been
occurring between the McKibben Road trailhead and Norris Road. As of
June 2010 consideration is being given to re-routing the Trail through that
section, which will probably affect this connector trail. This map
will be updated as needed.
