NCNST:  Augusta Drive to C Avenue

Here is a map or aerial image (your choice!) showing the track of the North Country National Scenic Trail between the Augusta Drive (Hutchinson property) trailhead and the C Avenue crossing to KBS in Kalamazoo County.

In the map displayed here, the Trail track is overlaid on a hybrid of a satellite image with road names from the Yahoo street map of the area.  But, if you want, you can change things to your liking:

  • You can change the background to a topo map, a USGS aerial image, or a Google street/road map, among others, by making your selection from the right-hand drop-down menu in the upper right corner of the map image.  Scroll the image to the left (using the bottom scroll bar) if necessary to activate the background layer selection menu to the right of the map image.

  • You can tone down the background layer to better visualize details on the ground by changing the percentage value in the other drop-down menu right next to the background selector.

  • By using the map tool in the upper left corner you can also zoom in or out, and you can click 'n drag the image to change the center point.  Zooming in, then click 'n dragging the map in whichever direction you want, makes it easier to make sense of the marked waypoints, which in places are a bit bunched together otherwise.

You can download a printable PDF topo version of this map in three overlapping parts to take with you on the Trail.  Click for letter-size maps of:

  • the south section — from the Augusta Drive (Hutchinson) trailhead to the McCrary trail shelter north of Kellogg Forest

  • the middle section — including Kellogg Forest to about a half mile north of M-89

  • the north section — from south of M-89 to the C Ave crossing into Kellogg Biological Station.

Trail note(s):

  • The North Country Trail between M-89 and C Avenue (Cheff Center) piggybacks on a network of horse trails which entails fairly numerous trail intersections, mostly 3-way.  The NCT track is well marked with blue blazes including turn blazes.  But you have to keep your eyes peeled for the blazes to avoid losing the thread.  If you are a hiker inclined to become "lost in thought" on the trail, in this section you might become lost in more than just thought!
