Chequamegon Chapter
Welcome to scenic north central Wisconsin! The Chequamegon Chapter of the North Country Trail Association invites you to enjoy the forests, lakes and rivers of our trail country from Copper Falls State Park near Mellen, Wisconsin to the boundary of the Chequamegon National Forest, south of Iron River, Wisconsin.
Since our beginning we have maintained many miles of trail in the Chequamegon National Forest; City of Mellen, and elsewhere. We've held several outings each year including National Trails Day in June. See our year 2008 schedule of activities listed below. Come join us, have fun, and help build the North Country National Scenic Trail.

Bears - Northern Wisconsin
has much remote back country through which the North Country Trail passes. Naturally the bear population is much
higher than other parts of the country. Hikers and overnight campers should take special precautions with food.
No food should be eaten or kept in tents. If possible, meals should be prepared well away from tent areas. Food
should be placed in suspended packs where bears cannot reach them away from the tent area.
Please register your intent to participate in any of
the listed scheduled events by calling Marty Swank.
Those registered will receive notification of alternate dates
for events cancelled due to inclement weather.
