Old Business:
Development Projects: Bill Menke reported on the Rovers project for next week – Spring Creek to W. Mail Rd. Hope to finish this next week. A flood plain survey is required for this area and is already underway paid for with NPS funds. Due to the complications of getting wetland permits and requirements for flood plain surveys, the segment of the trail from here on to Pattison will be a difficult challenge. The political climate also makes it difficult due to reduction of DNR personnel.
After the crew accomplishes what they can in the Spring Creek area, the Rovers plan to work on the Reinsburg Rd to Solon stretch.
Please do not tear down any flagging along the trail unless you are sure the trail is absolutely complete as some of flags are being used to mark wetlands and flood plain survey points.
Bill wrote an article on trail law enforcement (in the North Star?) Bikes and horses are a problem. In our area Kevin Feind of Brule River State Forest is our contact if you have any information on violators to report.
Tim reported that he would have 1000 chapter brochures made.
New Business:
Tom Gilbert of the NPS is retiring and there will be a retirement event with the NCTA. Some of the chapters are donating a sum of money for a gift for Tom. JoAnn made a motion that our chapter donates up to $50 as we see what other chapters are giving. Passed.
Chapter Work Days: We will have 3 during the summer, tackling sections of trail that need extra work. Some suggested sections would be Moore’s Pond and S to Jersett Cr. It was suggested we could set a particular Saturday of each month. Also suggested that Nasons put out some dates. We could also have a potluck picnic on one of the workdays to enhance member relations and attract new members.
Adopter List: Stuckey Rd to Spring Creek – Don Rantala
Pearsons will give up M to Stuckey Rd part of their section, as it would work out well for Brian Olson and the younger kids of the Minong Charter School.
A couple from the Chequamegon Chapter would like to take a section of BRSC that would be closer to them.
Membership: The current membership is at 59.
Brian Olson of Minong Charter School was given a free 1st year membership certificate.
Trail Maintenance Coordinator: Unfortunately, the Nasons will be leaving our chapter later this summer and we will need to replace them at this job. We will split the job into two parts; John Pearson will take care of the maintenance of equipment and Phil Anderson will do the calling and emailing of reminders to adopters. Phil will work out a time to begin coordinating with the Nasons.
Paul Johnson reminded the members to consider nominating chapter members for the various awards. Tim put out the award nomination forms.
Bill mentioned that some chapters have scrapbooks and he has some news articles to contribute. We will check with Lynne to see what she has.
Election of Officers: Vice President: Incumbent Lynne N. Atley elected.
Treasurer: Incumbent Peter N. Chuck Z elected.
Next meeting: October 15, 2011 at Highland Town Hall (who will reserve?)
Adjourn 10:30 am
