Chief Baw Beese Chapter is growing!  We are now about forty members from the Hillsdale/Jonesville area as well as Ann Arbor and greater Detroit.  Some members of this chapter live as far away as Lansing.  Work on The Trail never really ends, but we try to take some time out to enjoy our section as well as work on it.  Here are some examples.

In October of 2007, we were joined by members of the Chief Noonday Chapter, our neighbors to the northwest, for an early fall hike.  To see more, click here.

June 14, 2008 was the annual picnic of the chapter took place at beautiful Waterworks Park on the shores of Baw Beese Lake in Hillsdale.  The storms of the previous week gave way to a picture-postcard, beautiful day.  Steve Vear led an easy out-and-back stroll along the nearby section of The Trail, offering some interesting local facts.  We turned back at Lake Pleasant Road for a picnic and a short membership meeting.

March 8, 2009 found Kevin Bell, Ryan Bowles, Mike Dundas, and Ralph Powell beginning the re-rout of a section of trail around a muddy area in Lost Nation State Game Area (see the photo below for just how muddy it wasn't  that day).  It didn't take long for the fingers and toes to warm to the work, however, and it was great to spend a morning in the woods.

August 9, 2008 Re-opening and re-routing of the trail through Lost-Nation State Recreation Area continued apace.  We had a fine day with very moderate temperatures for August.  Some  heavy going opened out into mature forest leading to a little stream.  Work was done by a little past noon and we left the mosquitoes to their own devices.
