EVENTS CALENDAR
August 28 - September 5, 2004 NCT 100 Mile Hike from NY to Marienville______________
Come
join in the fun and hike the entire 100 miles from the NY border to SR 66 south
of Marienville, PA. We will be leaving on Saturday morning from the trailhead
on SR 346 and traveling south until we make it to SR 66. We are anticipating
doing 8-10 miles a day, maybe more, maybe less, and enjoying the beauty of our
section of the NCT.
Contact
Keith Klos for more information. nct001@verizon.net 814-484-7420
If
you don't want to go the whole way, you can meet the hikers along the trail, or
hike at your own pace and get off the trail wherever you want.
As
always, Cheryl and Bert will be traveling with ultra-light gear and are ready,
willing and able to teach you the fine art of traveling with next to nothing
and enjoying your hike all the more.
We
may be leaving a food cache at Henrys Mills Bridge to eliminate the need to
carry 7 days of food. Who knows? Hikers are an unpredictable breed.
Bert
is determined to shoot enough digital pictures to be able to show the entire
100 miles section to anyone who wants to see the pathway in living color, step
by step. J
"A
path without obstacles probably doesn't lead anywhere" so whatever Mother
Nature brings us, we'll find some way to enjoy it.
June 4th 2005 National Trail Day______________
This
years National Trail Day celebration will take place along the banks of the Kinzua Reservoir. This is the
largest man-made body of water east of the Mississippi River. The trail is on a hillside and we will be
benching about 1/2 mile. Also a little water diversion work to keep the trail dry. We start at 9 AM and will
work to approx. 1 PM. Bring sturdy boots, gloves, and a lunch. Tools will provided by the Allegheny
National Forest staff. For more info contact Keith W. Klos or
call 814-484-7420
June 2006 New Shelter______________
Check out our new Adirondak
style shelter at Upper Sherrif Run, Hunter's Station shelter. Located about 1/2 way between Henry's Mills and Minister Rd. At the
area is also a tent pad and plenty of space for additional tents. The Allegheny National Forest crew has erected a new bridge at
this location also. Nice hike in and out and a great place to spend the night.
Winter of 2007 / 08 Tionesta Scenic Area Re-route______________
What a great time to be on the trail.
Fall was great and the winter not that bad. We have re-routed the trail back to it's original location before the tornados of "85. If your
heading west, just cross Forestry Road (FR) 133E and follow the blue blazes. Heading east, cross over the pipeline and the blue blazes
will be there. The trail now goes thru the damage left from a catagory 5 tornado that passed our way on May 30, '85. Too many
old large trees were laid over but now the re-growth is in full swing. Come check it out.
June 7th 2008 National Trail Day______________
This years National Trails Days will be
near Amsler Springs shelter just north of Marienville, Pa. We have a hillside to re-work, water control and switch-back repair.
Camping the night before will be at Amsler Springs shelter and work will start about 9 AM, ending approx. 2 PM. All tools will be provided,
but you must bring, water, good gloves and boots, and lunch. You can contact Keith W. Klos or
call 814-484-7420.
